New hunting ground

Rifle, check; tent, check; canteen, check; new store, double check. Cabela is expanding its hunting ground. The hunting and outdoor gear giant recently opened a new retail store in Thornton this month.

The Nebraska-based company opened its doors to the 90,000-square-foot store Aug. 15 at Interstate 25 and 144th Avenue. Along with its well-known camping accessories and hunting equipment, Cabela brought 175 jobs with its newest location. In addition, it is expected to bring over $1 million in revenue to the city.

Cabela also brought other businesses, as well. Murphy Oil Corporation is opening a new gas station on property. And there are plans for a 150-room hotel. Additionally, Cabela reported plans for a grocery store, and three to four restaurants.
